Introducing the De Beauvoir Community - Part 3
In this series of blogs, we’ll be speaking to the residents who have been doing something different throughout lockdown and finding out about some of the people who make up our wonderful community.
Our residential tenants have been getting to know their neighbours much more and we’re pleased to see the support for our commercial tenants as they begin to open where safe and possible too.
Gail Bryson, a textile, graphic, and product designer - who has a studio at De Beauvoir Workshops as well as living in the area explained: “I've enjoyed being part of the community in De Beauvoir especially now the shops and cafes are opening up. It was very quiet here in full lockdown but now it's nice to have a socially distanced chat with the people we know in the De Beauvoir Deli, The Cure, Sweet Thursday and Presto who we've not seen for a while. Olive [her dog] is especially excited to see people!

It's the people in the shops and café, and my studio neighbours that make it feel like a community here to me."
Among many creative activities during the lockdown, Gail designed and printed Rainbow tea-towels. Printed on organic, fairtrade cotton, designed to brighten up everyone's day, kitchen, or walls. A percentage of the sales were donated to NHS charity and the "rainbow" was also donated to local hospitals and neighbours.
